About the Course

Christian Counseling Centers presents “An Introduction to Internal Family Systems (IFS) with a Christian Perspective” taught by Marilyn Hunt, M.S., LMFT and Mary Steege, M.Div., LMFT, held on Saturday, November 3, 2018 from 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at Calvary Church Los Gatos.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a non-pathologizing, evidence-based approach to healing based on the power of spiritual presence and the potential for transformation that comes the through experiences of God’s unconditional love and grace.  As a clinical approach, IFS does not identify with a particular religious tradition but Christians readily resonate with key concepts in the model that are congruent with the teachings of Jesus.  As a methodology, IFS offers a practical framework in which every part of us can experience the kind of healing that restores healthy relationship — with ourselves, with others and with God.  As we disarm and lay our burdens down, we can experience the kind of community and harmony known as hallmarks of God’s Kingdom come.

In this workshop, participants will learn the basics of the Internal Family Systems model, including the five theoretical underpinnings. You will learn the paradigm of multiplicity. You will understand the IFS concept of Self from a Christian perspective. Participants will also learn the eight C’s of Self as a means of spiritual discernment within the therapeutic process.   Attendees will be able to identify protective parts, both proactive and reactive.  You will be able to identify exiled parts and understand the kinds of burdens they carry.  Participants will learn the six F’s that guide the healing process and the five P’s of a spirit-led therapist. You will learn the unburdening process that is central in the IFS healing of trauma and includes retrieval, do-overs and release of burdens.  Participants will be encouraged to consider points of congruence between their own Christian perspective and the IFS model, as we seek to be Christ’s agents for redemption, reconciliation and renewal.

The workshop will include didactic presentation, experiential exercises and a demonstration of the model.

Course meets the qualifcations for 6 hours of continuing education credit for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.
