Jeff Bettencourt became a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in 1992 and has since maintained a private psychotherapy practice and worked in both the private and public education systems as a school psychotherapist, school psychologist, educational consultant, and independent educational evaluator. Jeff earned his B.A. in Ministry and Psychology from Bethany Bible College and his Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy from Azusa Pacific University. He continued his education at the University of La Verne, earning his professional credentials in School Counseling. Also, Jeff earned his professional credential as a school psychologist, and has become a Licensed Educational Psychologist (LEP). Jeff has extensive experience in the area of learning disabilities for evaluations, consultations, and interventions. He works with Executive Functioning Disorders, Working Memory, Spectrum Disorders, Attention Deficit Disorders, Learning Disabilities, and Special Education issues. His unique skill integrates psychotherapeutic training with his broad understanding of the learning process and its emotional impact on students and their families. Ten years of Psychoeducational testing and evaluations have provided Jeff a specific understanding of the unique issues facing students from early school years to college life and career-transitions. Jeff’s transparent personal style enables him to connect with individuals of all ages, with issues ranging from self-esteem, depression and anxiety, Attention Deficit Disorders, and life transitions. Jeff’s approach and experience working with couples makes the therapy process highly engaging and challenging. His approach provides the safety a couple needs to strengthen their own skills and insight, while learning and developing greater intimacy – leading to lasting change in the couple’s satisfaction and ongoing relationship growth. Jeff has been married for thirty years to his wife Shelli, who is also a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Jeff and Shelli have three sons. Their two oldest sons are in graduate school preparing for their own professional lives. Their youngest son is highly involved in 4-H and loves living on the family’s ranch. Jeff and Shelli are active members of their local church.
